Something to Chew On

"I began to look at the spaces of my life and home as a kind of kingdom over which I ruled.  To rule my time, to clean my mind was a choice of mental sovereignty, a reclamation of the direction, rhythm, and source of my thoughts so that I could root them in the people I loved and the life I wanted to create." ~Sally Clarkson from The Lifegiving Home

"Slow is a practice that we glean from here and there. We may adopt one small thing that helps us slow and, in turn, that may build into a second thing and so on." ~Monica Wilkinson The Slow Lane

"Slow is not without sacrifice or cost. We must give up something in its place." ~The Slow Lane

Have you read anything lately that you are "chewing" on or "thinking" on?  Please share. Share about your thoughts on the above quotes.

Blessings,
Chrissy

  1. Every now and again, I return to one of my favorite books, The Private World of Tasha Tudor, and I refresh my outlook on life with a number of her wise words. One of my favorite quotes of hers is this one :

I enjoy solitude. It's probably selfish, but why bother about it. Life is much too important, as Oscar Wilde said, to be taken seriously. I feel so sorry for those mothers who are devastated by loneliness when their children fly the coop and don't want to live at home anymore. They feel lost, but look what exciting things can be done. Life isn't long enough to do all you could accomplish. And what a privilege to be alive. In spite of all the pollutions and horrors, how beautiful this world is. Supposing you only saw the stars once every year. Think what you would think. The wonder of it!”

  2. "When life gets too cluttered, we neglect the important things." from More Hours in My Day by Emilie Barnes

I have been feeling very cluttered lately. It is much more then physical clutter. I am looking forward to the end of the school year and the changes that will take place. This quote has also spoken to me: "Slow is not without sacrifice or cost. We must give up something in its place." ~The Slow Lane. I am ready to make those sacrifices to have a life that is slower, less cluttered and much more meaningful.

  3. I love Sally, she is so wise.

I have found over the years that we can choose to opt out of many things that the culture or even our own group of friends choose to participate in. Our kids didn't play team sports, etc. We chose music lessons, and co-op classes, but chose to not participate in everything! You don't have to be frazzled and spending more time in the van than at home!

Choose time together, building memories, traditions, and build into your family, the ties that bind them. Be intentional in your conversations, and enjoy one another!

Good subject to think and chew on!

  4. This quotes keeps me searching my ways and heart. By Elizabeth Elliot.
The way you keep your home, the way you organize your time, the care you take in your personal appearance, the things you spend your money on, all speak loudly of what you believe. The beauty of peace shines forth in a ordered life. A disordered life speaks loudly of a disordered soul.

I have enjoyed all the quotes each person has posted here. A great post.
